Pet Memorial Rite

Needed:

4 candles for light and to represent the elements

2 candles to represent the god and goddess

4 stones to represent earth, in which your pet returned.

A representation of the pet

Small cup

Water

Sage for smudge

Sandalwood incense

A Cauldron of Earth

Bread and wine/juice

Glasses and offering plate

Salt

Arrange the 4 candles to represent the 4 elements. Arrange the 4 stones in the same manner. Use the sage smudge to cleanse the area. Place the representation of the pet in the center.  Draw a circle with salt on the altar.

Pass the incense over the circle clockwise and invoke the elemental guardian in the manner you normally use. Take some time to meditate. Focus on the times you enjoyed with your pet and the love you felt for him/her. Revel in those memories.

  • Sprinkle dirt around the salt circle and say:

<Pet’s name>, with the energies of Earth, I am with you in spirit. Your memory will always remain with me.

  • Now move the incense in a counter clockwise around the salt circle, and say:

<Pet’s name>, with the energies of Air, I am with you in spirit. Your memory will always remain with me.

  • Light the candles, and say:

<Pet’s name>, with the energies of Fire, I am with you in spirit. Your memory will always remain with me.

  • Pour the water into the altar cup, and say:

<Pet’s name>, with the energies of Water, I am with you in spirit. Your memory will always remain with me.

Thank the goddess and god for being present. Say goodbye to your pet. Release the elements. Bury the representation of your pet, but you may leave the rest of the altar up for a few days.
